The UNLV Rebel Girls

The UNLV Rebel Girls are very dedicated and passionate supporters of the Lindsay Bennett Memorial. Although Lindsay only had the opportunity to dance on Rebel Girls for a year, she impacted all of her teammates with her bright personality and her positive attitude.

The Rebel Girls believe in the mission of LB3 as well as the goal of continuing Lindsay’s “bliss”. Last year, the Rebel Girls helped organize a UNLV athletics NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills meeting, which was titled A Tribute to Lindsay Bennett. This meeting brought awareness to Lindsay’s story and the seriousness of drinking and driving. In this meeting, they passed out LB3 wristbands to all the athletes at UNLV to insure that all UNLV athletics were aware of LB3’s mission.

The Rebel Girls participate in events such as the annual LB3 Kick Off, the LB3 Blood Drive, and the LB3 Golf Tournament. They also took part in last year’s LB3 Holiday Show and the UNLV/Coronado Dance Performance. They help sell LB3 bracelets and shirts at basketball and football games, as well as collect pledges and donations during the designated LB3 games. Along with their dedication to the program, the head coach, Marca DeCastroverde, also sits on the LB3 Committee.

The Rebel Girls can be seen wearing their LB3 tattoo for every game they attend, as well as their LB3 dance top for all of the designated LB3 games. They look forward to another year honoring Lindsay’s memory and hope to help increase the community’s awareness of Lindsay’s mission. The Rebel Girls dance team will continue another season dancing, supporting, and believing in the LB3 program.

Lindsay’s Educational Awareness Program (L.E.A.P.)

On October 29, 2012 the Lindsay Bennett Memorial held our first full day L.E.A.P. (Lindsay’s Educational Awareness Program) planning meeting, at Del Webb Middle School.

The funds raised at this year’s Lindsay Bennett Memorial golf tournament paid for substitute teachers that allowed our educators to spend the whole day in small groups, discussing and creating lessons and activities for our proposed week long program. Our mission for L.E.A.P. – Educating students to make positive choices by creating awareness about the importance of respecting and valuing life.

The day of planning was well attended by teachers from the four middle schools that will pilot our program and administrators from Clark County School District Curriculum and Professional Development department. Our ambitious goal with this committee is to create a week’s worth of activities and lessons that follow current curriculum objectives that will be available as resources for all Middle schools. Lessons currently used by instructors were widely discussed and new activities and multi-dimensional lessons were compiled using the vast experience of the attendees, evidence based research and our vision for L.E.A.P.

Our goal throughout these planning meetings is to align to the middle school health curriculum with enough activities for class instruction that the individual teachers can choose from and mold their program based on their school and community needs. The key objective of the L.E.A.P. program is to provide students with the tools and support to help them successfully handle challenging situations when leaping from eighth grade into high school and maximize long term success.

The Lindsay Bennett Memorial is delighted to launch a quarterly e-newsletter for our supporters to keep you current and connected with all the memorial’s activities and accomplishments.

We are so grateful to all of you, those donors who have been with us from the beginning and the new supporters who joined us this past season through our new texting sign-up! The Bennett family and our tireless volunteers truly would not be able to move forward in our efforts to raise awareness if we did not have your commitment and support.

Here is what your donations have made possible:

2010 The Lindsay Bennett “Follow Your Bliss” scholarship was established at Coronado High School.

2010 and 2011 The Memorial contributed and participated with the Every Fifteen Minute Program at local high schools to raise awareness to the lasting effects of drinking and driving.

2011 and 2012 The memorial continued to award a Coronado High School senior with the “Follow Your Bliss” scholarship. The scholarship is administered by the Nevada Public Education Foundation.

2011 The Lindsay Bennett Memorial Scholarship was endowed at UNLV.

2011 The memorial began research and development of a middle school awareness program

2011 and 2012 The memorial gifted seven middle school students, from three different middle schools, with a memorial integrity savings bond award after competing in an essay contest.

2012 The memorial partnered with the Nevada Department of Public Safety for the “Buzzed Driving is DRUNK Driving” awareness campaign displayed at the Thomas & Mack, Cox Pavilion and at Sam Boyd Stadium.

Holiday Dance Celebration At Coronado High School

Delta Zeta’s “I Have A Choice Week”

Delta Zeta Sorority’s “I Have a Choice Week” on October 14-20th was held to help inform UNLV students on alcohol awareness. They sold bracelets for $2 in the Student Union, to benefit the LB3 Memorial.

2012 LB3 Kickoff

Lindsay Bennett Memorial teamed up with the UNLV Rebel Girls and UNLV CSUN to host this year’s LB3 Kickoff, that took place at UNLV’s Pida Plaza on October 4 from 9am to 2pm. There was music, food, giveaways and the famous 3-point shoot-out competition.

Coranado Cougarettes and UNLV Rebel Girls Perform Together

The Coranado Cougarettes and UNLV Rebel Girls teamed up for a halftime performance at Coronado’s football game against Rancho High School on September 28 for the Lindsay Bennett Memorial. The Cougarette’s dance team sold red “Dancers Against Drunk Driving” bracelets for $1 while the Rebel Girls signed up 3-point pledges for the upcoming UNLV Running Rebel basketball season.
